Sedimentary material is formed as a result of minerals and clays being deposited in areas such as old river bottoms. Over time this mass became stone. Limestones and Sandstone fall under this category.
Metamorphic stone is formed of a mixture of clays, carbonates, and other minerals which have changed under intense pressure and heat. A crystalline structure has typically been formed. Marble and Slate fall into this category.
