Among the trends of the last few months, large tiles have become a must in the design industry. Whether it’s to give a room an effect of magnitude, or to adopt a modern and elegant style in your home, large format tiles are truly popular.
Gone are the days when 12” x 24” tiles were laid everywhere. Today, large formats of more than 24” x 24” are in great demand. From 30” x 30”, tiles are often manufactured in 6mm thickness to reduce their weight. Sophisticated manufacturing technologies are used to create these beautiful large format thin tiles. These tiles require a precise installation process for a visually pleasing result. First and foremost, it is important to prepare the surface properly before installation. But also, to call upon professionals. Especially in the case of very large tiles.
Also, for the installation you need a very flat substrate, otherwise you risk having air bubbles under the tiles which can weaken the tiles and eventually break them. These tiles bring a certain modernity to interiors because their size allows to cover a large area with a minimum of joints. That’s why it is no longer rare to see 48” x 48” and even 60” x 120” tiles installed on floors and walls.
Here are a few reasons to adopt large format tiles now:
- On the floor, a large format ceramic tile will create a breathtaking visual impact. You can even install it in a small room by respecting a symmetrical installation for a beautiful effect of size.
- On the wall, you can cover a fireplace or shower wall with a single tile and get a beautiful result. Same thing for a kitchen backsplash.
- These tiles are always rectified, which allows for 1/16” joints.
For these reasons and many more that we will expose in one of our next Design videos, large formats remain the ideal option to have a trendy interior. Whether in your bathrooms, kitchen backsplashes, floors or walls, they will seduce even the most skeptical.
